The Gilbert Firm Has Been Named to the 2018 Edition of U.S. News – Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms”

The Gilbert Firm Has Been Named to the 2018 Edition of U.S. News - Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms”Gilbert McWherter Scott Bobbitt PLC has been named a Memphis Metropolitan Tier One firm for Insurance Law by U.S. News – Best Lawyers, in the 2018 edition of “Best Law Firms.” The is the second consecutive year that the Gilbert Firm has been listed in “Best Law Firms.” The Firm was also named a Tier Two firm in the Memphis Metro area for Commercial Litigation and Labor & Employment Litigation.

In order to be eligible for selection, a firm must have at least one practicing attorney who is currently listed in Best Lawyers in America®. At the Gilbert Firm, all four partners have been named to Best Lawyers for at least two consecutive years. A firm is then evaluated “based on a combination of client feedback, information provided on the Law Firm Survey, the Law Firm Leaders Survey, and Best Lawyers peer review.” The “Best Law Firms” list also uses information gathered from Best Lawyers about individual attorneys; this year, those evaluations numbered more than 54,000, and included attorneys from across the globe.

Understanding the Gilbert Firm’s specific rankings

U.S. News – Best Lawyers combines all of its data “into an overall ‘Best Law Firms’ score for each firm. This data was then compared to other firms within the same metropolitan area and at the national level…. The first tier in each metropolitan area includes those firms that scored within a certain percentage of the highest-scoring firm(s); the second tier, those firms that scored within a certain percentage of the next highest scoring firm(s), and so on.”

Because Tennessee has so many law firms within specific regions,Best Lawyers divided our state into Metro Areas. The Gilbert Firm, though it maintains offices in five different cities, was founded in Jackson, which Best Lawyers lists in the greater Memphis Metropolitan Area.

We are all very proud to see the Gilbert Firm listed in “Best Law Firms” for 2018. Congratulations, everyone!

Congratulations, Clint Scott, on Being Selected for Best Lawyers in America©

Congratulations, Clint Scott, on Being Selected for Best Lawyers in America©The Gilbert Firm would like to extend its deepest “Congratulations” to firm partner Clint Scott, for his inclusion in the 24th edition of The Best Lawyers in America©. This is the second year in a row that Clint has been selected for his work in insurance law.

For the latest edition, Best Lawyers narrowed down more than 12 million nominations. The nominees came from 75 countries throughout the world and more than 140 different practice areas.

About the Best Lawyers selection process

In order to be nominated for inclusion in Best Lawyers, an attorney must first be nominated by someone other than him or herself. Once the nomination is completed, the nominee is then reviewed by other attorneys on the current Best Lawyers list. If the nominee is in good standing with his or her local bar associations, and has received a certain amount of positive recommendations from reviewers (the exact rating process is confidential), then he or she is a strong contender for inclusion. Once the final attorneys have selected, the firms are informed and the result are published.

About Clint Scott

Clint Scott is the managing partner of the Gilbert Firm, and an award-winning attorney. His primary areas of practice are insurance disputes – the area of practice for which he was selected by Best Lawyers – and FLSA claims. Clint regularly handles complex claims on behalf of policyholders and employees, advocating for those who have been denied fair wages and compensation. He has obtained millions of dollars on behalf of these clients, helping them protect what matters most to them: their families, their property, and their livelihoods.

Clint is a dedicated, compassionate and thorough attorney. He works tirelessly on behalf of the people he represents on behalf of the Gilbert Firm. While we are thrilled that Clint was included in the latest edition of Best Lawyers, we cannot say we are surprised. He is positively deserving of this honor.

Congratulations, Brandon McWherter, on Being Named to the 2017 Mid-South Super Lawyers List

The Gilbert Firm is proud to announce that partner Brandon McWherter has been selected for the 2017 Mid-South Super Lawyers list, for this work in the area of Insurance Disputes. Brandon has been a Super Lawyers Rising Star since 2010.

Super Lawyers employs a proprietary selection method for choosing its final honorees. Attorneys throughout country are nominated every year for their work in more than 70 different areas of practice. No more than 5% of attorneys in each state will be included in the final list.

The selection process for Super Lawyers

In order to be considered for inclusion, an attorney must be nominated by someone else, such as a peer, or by the Super Lawyers research team. Each year, tens of thousands of attorneys across the U.S. are nominated. To narrow down the list, Super Lawyers assigns a point value to each attorney based on these 12 factors, which are all weighted differently:

  • Verdicts and settlements
  • Transactions
  • Representative clients
  • Experience
  • Honors and awards
  • Special licenses and certifications
  • Position within the law firm
  • Bar and/or professional activity
  • Pro bono and community services
  • Scholarly lectures and writings
  • Education and employment background
  • Other outstanding achievements

Nominees who have obtained the highest point totals are then reviewed again by a Blue Ribbon Panel made up of attorneys who practice in the same area of law. The Panel sends along its recommendations, and up to the top 5% are selected for inclusion on the list.

Unlike other independent ratings services, Super Lawyers does not guarantee inclusion on its list from year to year. Nominees must undergo evaluation by the panel every time. Because Super Lawyers insists on a “strict separation between research and advertising,” advertising with the service does not guarantee selection.

Protecting policyholders in Tennessee and Mississippi

Brandon McWherter is an awarding-winning attorney who understands the meaning of hard work. His commitment to doing right by his clients is unwavering; we often find him huddled over his desk, reviewing policies line by line, late into the evening. Since 2013, Brandon has secured more than $25 million on behalf of his clients.

We are happy for Brandon, but we are not surprised to see him selected for Super Lawyers for the 7th consecutive year. He is absolutely deserving of this honor.

Congratulations, Brandon!

Congratulations, Michael Russell, on Being Elected President of the Nashville Chapter of the Federal Bar Association!

Congratulations, Michael Russell, on Being Elected President of the Nashville Chapter of the Federal Bar Association! The Gilbert Firm is very proud to announce that our partner, Michael L. Russell, has been elected President of the Nashville Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. The FBA was founded in 1920, and “is dedicated to the advancement of the science of jurisprudence and to promoting the welfare, interests, education, and professional development of all attorneys involved in federal law.” With 18,000+ members – 1,500 of which are federal judges – the Federal Bar Association provides support to legal professionals who practice in the federal court system through its advocacy, networking and education opportunities, and leadership choices within the organization.

We believe that no one better represents what it means to be a leader than Michael. In his role as President, he will continue to promote the good work of the Association, and assist the federal bench and bar of Middle Tennessee as it promotes the effective administration of justice.

Helping the legal community grow in numbers and strength

Michael Russell has held a number of leadership positions in Bar Associations at the local, state and now federal level. He is the Immediate Past Chair of the Tennessee Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section, and was named a Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation (a philanthropic organization) this year, an honor bestowed upon less than 4% of all licensed attorneys. He is also an active member of the American Bar Association’s Federal Labor Standards Legislation Committee.

It is because of this work, as well as the commitment he shows every day to helping his clients obtain justice, that we know Michael is an excellent choice for President of the FBA. He is one of the most dedicated and skilled attorneys we know, and has contributed in numerous ways to civic organizations and non-profits alike. From all of us at the Gilbert Firm, we say “Congratulations, Michael!” We are incredibly proud of, and happy for, you and your new role.

Jonathan Bobbitt of the Gilbert Firm Discusses the Challenges Women with Disabilities Have in the Workplace

November is Epilepsy Awareness Month, and we want to help spread the word, so that we can help more people with this condition. One of the many challenges people with epilepsy face is maintaining steady employment, but women, generally speaking, have a harder time. In fact, women with disabilities are less likely to be able to get work, and are often paid significantly less than their male counterparts.

We invite you to check out Jonathan Bobbitt’s piece for My Epilepsy Story on the difficulties women with disabilities face in the workplace. You can find the story in full by clicking this link. Remember, if you have need of a skilled Tennessee disability discrimination attorney, the Gilbert Firm is ready to fight for your rights.

The Gilbert Firm Was Selected for Tier One Status for Best Law Firms in 2017

The Gilbert Firm Was Selected for Tier One Status for Best Law Firms in 2017We are proud to announce that Gilbert McWherter Scott Bobbitt PLC has been awarded a Tier 1 selection in the 2017 Edition of “Best Law Firms” by U.S. News and Best Lawyers® in the area of Employment Law. This is the first time the Firm has been selected for the list, though our attorneys have been named to the Best Lawyers lists for years.

To be considered for selection, a firm must have at least one attorney with a Best Lawyers designation in the same practice area and metro region as the firm. The rankings are then based “on a rigorous evaluation process that includes the collection of client and lawyer evaluations, peer review from leading attorneys in their field, and review of additional information provided by law firms as part of the formal submission process.”

This year, Best Lawyers selected their recipients from more than 7.3 million applicants; the end result was a final list of attorneys throughout the country which made up less than half of one percent of the applications. Firms honored with a “Best Law Firms” designation will be chosen from a group of firms that could include even fewer than half of that number.

The importance of being first tier

“Best Law Firms” uses tiers instead of sequential rankings, because of the sheer number of firms considered for selection. First tier law firms are those which scored the highest percentage in the ranking system for their geographic areas. All told, “Best Law Firms” looks at 185 metropolitan areas across the US, and the firms practice in 122 different areas.

What does this mean to people searching for a Tennessee employment attorney? Simply put, out of all of the firms in so many areas and practicing so many kinds of law, Tier One firms like ours earned the highest points.

At the Gilbert Firm, we take this selection very seriously. Our clients’ best interests are our number one priority, and we do whatever we can to help Tennessee employees whose rights have been violated, or who have faced discriminatory practices in the workplace. We are honored to have been named to the 2017 edition of “Best Law Firms” by U.S. News and Best Lawyers, and we promise to continue to fight as hard as we always have to protect the people we represent.

The Gilbert Firm provides comprehensive representation on behalf of employees, policyholders and special needs students throughout Tennessee. We invite you to contact us through this form, or by calling 888.996.9731, to learn more about our services. We currently maintain offices in Nashville, Chattanooga, Memphis, Jackson and Knoxville to better serve you.
